The Junior League of Dallas was honored with the Pride of Texas Award during this year’s State Fair of Texas opening ceremony. The award is presented each year to an individual or group that has demonstrated the qualities that Texans are best known for: strength, friendliness, hard-working, courageous and perhaps most of all, pride.

Accepting the award on behalf of JLD was President Christa Sanford, who was also joined by Centennial Co-chairs Margo Goodwin and Andrea Cheek in the annual ribbon cutting ceremony opening the Fair.

Gina Armour Norris, Chairwoman for the State Fair of Texas’ Board of Directors noted the JLD’s role as “an advocate and champion for nonprofit organizations through the city” as she presented the award. In her acceptance, Sanford acknowledged the League’s partnership with the City of Dallas and State Fair of Texas for its Centennial project to rehabilitate the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House.

She also invited attendees to the League’s Hall of State interactive exhibit. “We have a league of volunteers who are devoted to Dallas, and we hope you’ll share in our exhibit at the Hall of State.” 

The Hall of State exhibit showcased the League’s 100-year history with historical documents, memorabilia, photos and current projects with the League’s Centennial theme “Legacy of Leadership. Devotion to Dallas.” The exhibit was presented in partnership with Sewell Automotive Companies and H-E-B/Central Market.
